What awaits you

Kuta Lombok remains less frequented than Bali .

This region offers you a calm setting with wild beaches , ideal for beginner surfers, and abundant nature.

Tanjun Ann and Selong Belanak are perfect for learning to surf with gentle waves. For a spectacular panorama, climb Bukit Merese Hill at sunrise or sunset. A two-hour scooter ride away, discover Pawun Harbour, gateway to the " 3 Secret Gili Islands": Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak, and Gili Kedis—tranquil islands ideal for snorkeling away from the crowds.

The Mandalika Circuit embodies the modernity of Lombok, hosting MotoGP every year.

Nearby, you can also go paragliding.

Further north, Gili Air is peaceful, while Gili Trawangan attracts partygoers. The impressive Tiu Kelep waterfalls are perfect for a nature getaway.

what I experienced

One morning, I wanted to challenge myself: to try an advanced surf spot , in frankly extreme conditions : driving rain, powerful current, rocks, reefs and average waves.

I board a small boat with two other surfers, and as soon as we arrive at the spot west of Gerupuk , I jump into the water.

The fear was definitely there… But it was important for me to step out of my comfort zone and see how I would react in those kinds of conditions.

After 20 minutes of struggling, I decided to turn back, simply accepting that I wasn't quite at that level yet. This spot required a level of physical fitness and technique that I don't yet possess.

By the way, I've already had two surfing accidents :

The first time, a surfer ran into me, the tip of his board landed on my elbow: result, a nasty case of bursitis.

The second time, I made a bad maneuver myself to avoid a swimmer who had the bright idea of surfacing at the last moment… To dodge him, I moved too quickly and my board hit my rib hard. Result: Intercostal tear.

Despite everything, I'm really glad I tried surfing in such varied conditions, with different levels of difficulty. It helps me better gauge my level, be more aware of risky situations, and progress, both physically and in reading the ocean.
